Antimony Trioxide is an inorganic compound predominantly utilized as a flame-retardant synergist for plastics, paints, rubber, electronics, and textiles. Antimony Trioxide is often combined with halogenated compounds when used as a flame retardant, without antimony trioxide, about twice as much halogenated compound would be required to produce an effective flame retardant. It is also used in paint pigments, glass and ceramic clarifying agent, catalyst in the production of polyethylene terephthalate, and as an opacifier for porcelain and enamel.
Antimony(III) oxide is the inorganic compound with the formula Sb2O3. It is the most important commercial compound of antimony. It is found in nature as the minerals valentinite and senarmontite.Like most polymeric oxides, Sb2O3 dissolves in aqueous solutions with hydrolysis.
